MOTS-c Peptide

10mg / 5ml per vial

MOTS-c is a 16-amino-acid peptide that the body's own mitochondria produce, coded within mitochondrial DNA rather than the main genome. It's studied in the lab for its role in metabolism, energy use and how mitochondria 'talk' to the rest of the cell. Supplied as a research-grade compound.

Scientific profile

MOTS-c at a glance

In lab studies, MOTS-c has been shown to nudge a chemical pathway (the folate–methionine cycle) in a way that activates AMPK, a master 'energy sensor' that helps cells manage fuel. Under stress, it can also move into the cell's nucleus and interact with genes there, giving mitochondria a way to signal to the rest of the cell.

01

What is MOTS-c?

MOTS-c is one of a small family of peptides coded not in our main DNA but inside the mitochondria, the tiny 'power plants' within our cells. Its discovery changed how scientists think about mitochondria: not just as energy producers, but as parts of the cell that can send out instructions.

It's a 16-amino-acid peptide, made here to research grade and checked against the published sequence using mass spectrometry.

02

What researchers study MOTS-c for

The best-understood effect is the way MOTS-c indirectly switches on AMPK, the cell's main energy sensor. By nudging a chemical pathway (the folate–methionine cycle), it pushes cells toward burning fuel: taking up glucose and using fat for energy.

A second area is how mitochondria signal back to the cell's nucleus. Under stress, MOTS-c has been seen to move into the nucleus and interact with genes involved in the antioxidant response. Most of this work uses muscle, fat and liver cells.

03

How to store and prepare MOTS-c

MOTS-c contains two 'methionine' building blocks, which makes it prone to reacting with oxygen. Mix it with bacteriostatic water, keep its time exposed to air short, and keep the vial capped and refrigerated between uses.

Keep the mixed solution in the fridge (2–8°C) in the dark and use within 30 days. Sealed powder lasts 24 months in the fridge.

Certificates of analysis

Every batch tested. Every result published.

Samples from each MOTS-c batch are sent to an independent, accredited UK laboratory. Purity is measured with a technique called HPLC, and identity is confirmed by mass spectrometry, before the batch is released.

Consistent between batches

Every release is held to the same specification, so a repeat order behaves like the last one.

Answers

MOTS-c questions, answered

Can't find what you need? Our UK team answers technical enquiries within one working day.

Is MOTS-c third-party tested?

Yes. Every batch of MOTS-c is checked by an independent UK laboratory that's accredited to the ISO/IEC 17025 standard. They confirm its purity (using a technique called HPLC) and its identity (using mass spectrometry). The certificate for the exact batch you receive is published on this page before we put it on sale.

Where is it made and shipped from?

Everything (making the peptide, filling the vials and quality-checking each batch) happens in the UK at our facility on Alderley Park, the country's largest life-sciences campus. Your order is picked, packed and posted from the same site, so nothing crosses a border before it reaches you.

How quickly will my order arrive?

Orders placed before 3pm, Monday to Friday, are sent out the same working day on a tracked 24-hour UK service. Delivery is free on orders over £100. Everything ships in plain, unbranded packaging.

What does 99% purity actually mean?

It means at least 99% of what's in the vial is the peptide itself, with almost no leftover by-products. We measure this with a lab technique called HPLC, and only release batches that reach 99% or higher. The exact figure for your batch is printed on its certificate.

How does MOTS-c come packaged?

MOTS-c arrives as a freeze-dried powder in a sealed glass vial, with a flip-off cap and a tamper-evident seal so you know it hasn't been opened. You'll need bacteriostatic water to mix it (sold separately).

Can I save money by buying more than one vial?

Yes. Two vials save you 10% and three vials save 20% against the single-vial price.

Do I get a Certificate of Analysis with every order?

Yes. A certificate comes with every batch and can be downloaded from this page. It shows the batch number, the date it was made, the purity result, confirmation of identity, appearance, water content and a contamination (endotoxin) check.

Is this product for human use?
